2011 NATIONAL GLAAD MEDIA AWARD NOMINEE The not-for-profit GAYFEST NYC, Inc. is a New York City arts organization that nurtures playwrights and develops new LGBT and other minority plays and musicals for world stages and film and television production. GAYFEST NYC, Inc. presents a biennial festival showcasing those works most ready for production and offers other productions and readings throughout the year.
The GAYFEST NYC Community Service Award is presented annually to a courageous, visionary and dedicated individual or organization whose selfless acts of care, sustained commitment and outstanding service have enhanced the quality of life for members of the LGBT community.
2012 COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD RECIPIENT THOMAS KREVER Thomas Krever has worked in the nonprofit field for over two decades bringing quality services to at-risk and fringe-youth populations throughout the nation as well as training the organizations and communities that support them. As the Executive Director of The Hetrick-Martin Institute, Thomas works every day to help Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning youth find a safe haven of support where they are free to develop their own strengths and resiliencies to interact in a world that can be overtly hostile and even questioning of their basic human rights.
Thomas Krever DAVID MIXNER Author, political strategist, civil rights activist and public affairs advisor, David Mixner has been involved in public life, policy, business and a writer for over fifty years. His blog davidmixner.com is one of the fastest growing blogs in America. He is the author of the critically acclaimed memoir, Stranger Among Friends and the number one bestseller Brave Journeys. Over the years, Mr. Mixner has worked in over seventy-five campaigns as campaign manager, fund-raiser or strategist. He is currently a successful international public affairs/strategic-planning consultant with an expertise in HIV/AIDS and has worked on projects in Russia, Africa and the United States
